At any one time, we hold a stock of at least
1000 doors, ranging from elegant front doors to the simple cottage
door. The periods and styles can vary considerably so we have
compiled a list of the most common types we have in stock.
Standard 4 panel Victorian/Edwardian doors
This style of door is the most common as it was popular from
the end of the last Georgian era to the end of the Edwardian
era and it is still being used today. The detail varies, as
the mouldings on the panels can be different. Also some doors
have the mouldings on both sides, some on one side and some
with no mouldings at all.
The sizes can vary, so we have listed the most common ones below:
Sizes
27" x 76"
28" x 76"
30" x 78"
32" x 80"
34" x 82"
36" x 84"
Any sizes over 36" x 84" are uncommon but are available. It is probably a good idea at this point to advise that although we have a large stock of original doors, there are some sizes and styles that are just not possible to get anymore. So we are able to offer a made to measure service where we can make or copy a size or style of door. This service includes door frames & sash windows etc. All you need to do is send us details and we can get a quote to you within 10 days.
Six panel Georgian doors are the hardest doors to get in good condition and tend to be wide and short. We are limited in our stock of originals, but again can make the doors to order.
Room Dividers
We have a good stock of original pine room dividers, mainly as pairs, which range in size
and style. Sets of 3 and 4 doors are rare, so we normally make them to order, (see new
door section).
1920s / 30s doors
Normally made out of British Colombian Pine, these doors come in a 4 or 6-panel style. The typical size of this door is 30" x 78".
Front Doors
Of all the door styles, the front doors are the most varied. We have classic style Victorian doors, cottage doors, Tudor style oak doors (reproductions) grand entrance doors and classic 1920/30's doors. Most of these doors are ready to take glass panels, but we do also have a good range of solid front doors (i.e. no glass).
All the information given above is only really a rough outline of the actual stock we carry and we do strongly advise you to pay us a visit if that is at all possible, if not then please e-mail, fax or telephone us and we will be glad to help as much as we can.
All door sizes given above are quoted as the original sizes of the doors when originally made. It is common to find that the doors have been trimmed down to make them fit the original frames. Due to this most doors normally range from 0.25" to 0.5" out of size. A good carpenter can easily make the doors fit if they are slightly out, it is not normally a problem. It is also useful to check the thickness needed as doors can vary from 1" to 1.75" thick
